Synopsis
Ilse's Notebook: A Survey Corps Member's Journal During the Survey Corps' 49th expedition, Hange Zoë is eager to capture a Titan specimen. Even without approval from Commander Erwin Smith, when a Titan appears in a nearby forest, Hange rides out alone to confront it. Taking reckless risks to lure it out, she bombards the Titan with questions, risking her life for her research. But this Titan behaves unusually—it quickly retreats back into the woods, leading Hange to a specific location. What Hange discovers is the remains of former scout Ilse Langnar. Though dead, Ilse leaves behind a crucial clue that could advance Titan research: a diary recording her final moments. A Sudden Visitor: The Tormented Curse of Youth Jean Kirstein would do anything to escape his dull home life and overbearing mother. After joining the military, his ultimate ambition is to enter the Military Police and live a life of peace and luxury. However, throughout his time in the 104th Training Corps, things never go as Jean hopes. Eventually, the stolen glory and condescending taunts from his comrades become unbearable—so Jean challenges fellow cadet Sasha Blouse to a duel, aiming to prove who is the strongest. But who will emerge victorious? Hardship The 104th Training Corps' latest assignment is a horseback ride through the forest. Though meant to test their vigilance even in peaceful conditions, the task is dull and breeds internal conflict. This is especially true for one squad led by Marco Bott. Some members want to stick to the mission, while others prefer to slack off and entertain themselves with more exciting activities. But when trouble suddenly appears, they are caught completely off guard.
Background
The first Shingeki no Kyojin OVA, Ilse no Techou, is adapted from a side-story in the 5th volume of the Shingeki no Kyojin manga. The second, Totsuzen no Raihousha, is an original story that utilizes the comedic previews found at the end of the manga's volumes. The third is an anime-original story. Ilse no Techou was scheduled to be bundled with the 11th limited-edition manga volume on August 9, but the disc was delayed 4 months. The 11th special-edition manga volume bundled a sticker and 3D card instead of the OVA.
