Synopsis
The Tohoku region was struck by a devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake on March 11, 2011, compelling the proprietors of Tomita Diner to flee during the evacuation, abandoning their eight-year-old canine companion, Gonta. Yoshino, a university student in Tokyo, joins a volunteer pet rescue squad and journeys to the disaster-stricken area. She rescues a dog and gives him the name Peace, but soon learns he suffers from a grave illness, with possibly just a month remaining in his life. Driven by a resolve to bring Peace back to his original owners, Yoshino begins a search that ultimately leads her to the Tomita family, where she discovers that Peace is in fact Gonta. Against the grim medical forecast, Gonta defies expectations and survives longer than predicted, instilling hope in numerous disaster survivors. Yoshino, propelled by her own personal reasons, intensifies her commitment to animal rescue initiatives.
