Kitakaze no Kureta Table-kake
きたかぜのくれたテーブルかけ
Synopsis
Inspired by a Norwegian folktale, this narrative follows Hans, a baker whose efforts are repeatedly thwarted when the North Wind blows his flour away. Seeking recompense, Hans travels to the North Wind's stronghold. There, he receives a magical tablecloth that produces endless banquets. However, a cunning innkeeper tricks Hans and steals the cloth. Undeterred, Hans returns to the North Wind and obtains a sheep that drops gold coins, only to have it stolen again by the same innkeeper. On his third trip, Hans is given a rod designed by the North Wind to reveal the thief. When the innkeeper attempts another deception, the rod exposes his guilt, resulting in the innkeeper's punishment and the recovery of Hans' belongings. With his magical items reclaimed, Hans goes back home to his mother.
