Synopsis

In the year 2034, two years have passed since Motoko Kusanagi departed from Section 9. Togusa has assumed leadership of the team, which has significantly grown in size. This expanded Section 9 deals with a series of complex incidents, and their inquiries point to an ultra-wizard hacker known as the Puppeteer orchestrating everything. Meanwhile, Batou has been investigating the case from a different angle and runs into Motoko. She tells him, "Stay away from the Solid State Society," before leaving. Batou is left wondering: could Motoko be the Puppeteer? The puzzling cases Section 9 handles gradually interconnect in an almost artistic fashion. Who is the Puppeteer?
