The Neapolitan song "Funiculì funiculà," written by Luigi Denza with lyrics by Peppino Turco in 1880, was originally composed to mark the opening of the first funicular railway on Mount Vesuvius. In April 1961, a Japanese cover by the group Duke Aces aired on NHK’s Minna no Uta program under the title "Tozandensha" (Mountain Railway), featuring shadow play by the Kakashiza Shadow Play Theatre. This version is now regarded as lost media. Six years later, in June 1970, the Hibarigaoka Boys and Girls Choir (Hibarigaoka Shounen Shoujo Gasshoudan) performed the piece again on the same program, using the original title. That performance was accompanied by animation created by Hal Fukushima.
