Synopsis
Continues the story of Dragon Ball Z
Five years after his victory at the World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku enjoys a quiet life with his family. That peace is shattered when Raditz arrives, revealing himself as Goku's older brother. Raditz explains that Goku is a Saiyan, a member of a once-formidable race nearly annihilated after their home planet was destroyed. Sent to Earth as an infant with a mission to subjugate and ruin the world, Goku's aggressive nature was wiped out by a head injury that caused amnesia, leading him to grow into someone who uses his strength to defend others. When Raditz fails to recruit Goku, he warns Goku's friends of a looming danger that will soon reach Earth, igniting an interstellar conflict that shakes the universe. The battle for the seven magical Dragon Balls, capable of granting any wish, is about to commence, with only the strongest surviving the coming confrontation.

After years of searching, Emperor Pilaf finally obtains the Black Star Dragon Balls, rumored to be twice as strong as Earth's regular ones. Just as Pilaf prepares to wish for global domination, Gokuu Son interrupts him, causing Pilaf to botch his wish and accidentally revert Gokuu to a child. Once the wish is granted, the Black Star Dragon Balls scatter across the entire galaxy. Gokuu soon learns that unless all of them are gathered within a year, Earth will be destroyed. Joining forces with his granddaughter Pan and a young adult Trunks, Gokuu embarks on a journey through space to locate the Black Star Dragon Balls and save his home planet from annihilation.
Background
Dragon Ball GT was produced by Toei Animation with minor involvement from Akira Toriyama, who assisted in creating the show's premise and designed most of the new villains and main protagonists. Toriyama referred to the series as "a grand side-story of the original Dragon Ball".
