Synopsis
Spring has finally arrived in Moomin Valley, setting the stage for another grand adventure for Moomintroll and all its residents. With Snufkin returning from his winter travels, the valley's inhabitants slowly emerge from hibernation. Discovering a curious hat, the Moomins cannot bring themselves to discard it due to its excellent craftsmanship, instead planning to track down its rightful owner. While playing with his friends, Moomin decides to hide inside the silk hat. When his companions come searching for him, they are horrified to see that Moomin has turned into a grotesque creature. Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he is repulsed to find himself completely altered. After frightening his friends and family, Moomin reverts to his normal appearance, and he and Snufkin choose to throw the hat into the river. As it floats away, they start to ponder who the hat belonged to and if its owner will ever come back for their lost item.
Background
Based on the classic Swedish-Finnish children's series by Tove Jansson, Tanoshii Muumin Ikka starts off from the events of the third novel, "Finn Family Moomintrol."
