Synopsis
Adapted from the premier collection of Chinese classical short stories, this narrative follows scholar Pu Songling as he spends the night at Lanruo Temple. He is captured by two monsters, Toad and Turtle, and taken to the bottom of an ancient well to have the quality of his tales judged. Within a temple, a well, and a tree, classic chapters from Strange Stories—including The Taoist Priest of Mount Laoshan, Lotus Princess, Nie Xiaoqian, Painted Skin, and Lady Lu—unfold one after another across the changing tides of life. Six distinct story styles combine to create an audio-visual feast of the most bizarre, most emotional, and most fateful tales.
