Traveling merchant Kraft Lawrence arrives in the village of Pasloe with a cart filled with fur pelts. Local legend says that centuries ago, a villager formed a pact with the wolf deity Holo, who promised to grant Pasloe abundant wheat harvests. However, over time, these tales have faded into mere memories of the past.
After wrapping up his business quickly in the village, Lawrence heads toward his next stop. His journey takes an unforeseen twist when he finds a sleeping girl with animal ears, completely naked, nestled among his furs. To his astonishment, the youthful woman claims to be Holo—the legendary wolf.
Holo longs to return to her northern homeland, and despite a rocky start to their meeting, she persuades Lawrence to take her along on his travels. In exchange, she pledges to pull her weight, leveraging her sharp mind and centuries of wisdom to aid her new partner in his trade. As they journey onward, Lawrence and Holo seize whatever commercial chances come their way, frequently landing in predicaments that challenge both their business acumen and their bond.
