The film Akai Ito delves into the concept of crafting visual narratives from a single thread, turning this straightforward idea into a captivating series of animated sequences. Drawing from East Asian mythology, the movie employs the motif of the red string of fate. Although there are many renditions of this legend, the core notion remains: the deities connect destined soul mates with an unbreakable crimson thread. As an old Chinese tradition holds, an invisible red thread links people who are fated to meet, regardless of barriers posed by time, distance, or circumstances. The thread may stretch or become tangled, but it will never snap.
