Following the vanishing of the crimson sun and the catastrophic Breakdown Phenomenon that wipes Arata Kasuga's town from existence, reality is artificially reconstructed thanks to a magical grimoire entrusted to him by his childhood friend and cousin, Hijiri Kasuga. After a chance meeting with High Priest Lumachina Weselia, Diablo and his companions decide to accompany the young woman on her mission to root out the deep-seated corruption within the Church. Lumachina mistakenly believes Diablo is the true God, a misunderstanding he uses to his advantage while protecting her during her first task to find the righteous head paladin, Batutta. The journey adds Horn, the grasswalker, and Rose, the Magmatic Maid, to the group. Nonetheless, Claire insists Kamito must serve as her spirit. At the academy, Kamito tries to avoid Claire and encounters Headmaster Greyworth Ciel Mais, who offers him the chance to join the school. Although the academy mainly trains shrine princesses, Kamito agrees to attend in hopes of learning about Restia Ashdoll, his former spirit. He also takes on the Headmaster's challenge to win the upcoming Blade Dance tournament in two months, where he must defeat the academy's most powerful elementalist, rumored to be linked to a darkness spirit.

Hida Kizuna has the HHG (Heart Hybrid Gear) ability, but it isn't powerful enough to make him especially significant.
