Anime Like Vandread: Gekitou-hen

The Great Kanto Desert is all that remains of post-apocalyptic Japan, a blistering expanse of sand and ruins where survival is a daily struggle. For ordinary people, this barren wasteland offers nothing but hardship. But for those who have spent too long under the scorching sun, the desert becomes a place to carve out a legend. One such figure is the masked handyman known as Sunabouzu, or Desert Punk, whose reputation for completing any job—no matter how dangerous or depraved—is unmatched. Ruthless and cunning, he is a force of crude destruction feared by the desert's inhabitants. Yet Junko Asagiri, the "Vixen of the Desert," quickly discovers that Sunabouzu has a glaring weakness: he is easily manipulated by his insatiable lust for large-breasted women. Through their chaotic escapades across the Kanto Desert, Sunabouzu brings together a bizarre cast of characters who entertain themselves with senseless violence and perversion in a world already ruined by their ancestors. And, like those before them, they have learned absolutely nothing.

Following a massive earthquake that submerged Tokyo and much of the planet beneath the waves, Aika works as a salvager, recovering artifacts from the flooded ruins. Her life changes when she takes on a perilous assignment to find and secure the enigmatic Lagu, only to realize that other parties are also hunting for it.

Photon Earth is a kind-hearted boy possessing superhuman strength who has "Baka" (the Japanese word for "idiot") written on his forehead, likely by his mischievous friend Aun Freya. His life takes a strange turn when he ends up engaged to the beautiful fugitive pilot Keyne Acqua after writing "baka" on her forehead. This is only the start of his problems, as he must now shield both Aun and Keyne from the villainous Papacharino, who aims to steal the secrets of "Aho" (another term for idiot) energy from Keyne's grandfather's ship.

Team Warrior operates as a specialized anti-terror unit within the Neo-Tokyo Police force. Its members include Rio, who is perpetually broke; Maya, who has an obsession with guns; computer expert Lillica; technology specialist Nanvel; Yuji, a pilot with voyeuristic tendencies; and their enigmatic leader, Maki. The team handles various assignments such as bodyguard details, dismantling robbery and arms trafficking operations, and guarding a highly formidable tank. Rio and the others consistently foil the schemes of Ruby, an agent working for a mysterious coalition of influential figures. In the lead-up to the final confrontation, the story uncovers how Team Warrior was originally assembled, how the clever Rio came to be part of it, and the painful history that Maki carries.

Tetsuya Wakatsuki, a young photographer, is recording an alien invasion that brutally wipes out most of humanity. After a series of accidents cause him to be shoved against the enemy commander, Tetsuya is knocked out. When he regains consciousness, he finds himself aboard a spaceship, where the alien commander, Princess Kahm of Saint Evascuraze, announces that she has developed an interest in him and wants him as her husband. Though initially reluctant, Tetsuya comes to understand that marrying Kahm might be the only way to spare the remaining humans from destruction. To end the invasion, he agrees to wed the alien princess—even though it defies the wishes of her father, the emperor.

The city of Cosplay City is threatened when the wicked Dolmeck appears. Leading a legion of monsters, he aims to wipe out everything. The only one who can stop him is Cutey Honey. Roused from her slumber, Honey Kisaragi becomes the android Cutey Honey, capable of multiple transformations. But an unforeseen turn occurs when Honey confronts an old foe from her past: Panther Zora.

Kei and Yuri started out as junior auxiliary agents within the Worlds Works and Welfare Agency (W.W.W.A., commonly called the 3WA), where they were assigned as partners under the codename "Lovely Angels." Kei had just come off her fourth probation due to some incident she caused, while Yuri's romantic escapades were well-known around the office. From their first meeting, the two took an instant dislike to each other. Initially, Kei and Yuri refused to cooperate, and Kei even quit the 3WA. Eventually they began working together again, but because of the massive collateral damage they (always unintentionally) caused while solving cases, they earned the nickname "the Dirty Pair." Although the two now get along, they still constantly bicker and complain to one another. While it is often claimed that these are younger versions of the original Lovely Angels Kei and Yuri, this series is actually an alternate universe retelling of Dirty Pair, set in the years 2248–49.

On her sixteenth birthday, Honey Kisaragi sets out to see her father. He arrives injured and fleeing from pursuers. Suddenly, a band of thugs and a monster appear. Detective Seiji Hayama steps in to save Honey and her father, but the monster captures her father. Devastated, Honey returns home to find it destroyed. A mysterious handsome man offers her hope and a device to fight the monsters who took her father. With this device, Honey can assume multiple forms and defeat Panther Zora, the sinister force behind the attacks.

Koto accidentally seals away the Sun Goddess Amaterasu, leaving her trapped in another world with no way back. Meeting priestesses who battle the evil in this unfamiliar realm, she learns that Black Towers scattered across the land keep Amaterasu imprisoned, each guarded by dangerous monsters. Koto must now find a way to help defeat these creatures and restore the world to its original state.

The unaired episodes of Seihou Bukyou Outlaw Star that appear on the eighth and twelfth VHS volumes are designated as episodes 16 and 23.

This OVA directly followed up Vandread The First Stage (season one). Also known as Vandread Taidouhen Stage (The Movement Stage), it served as a recap of the first 13 episodes while including additional footage. Thus, Vandread Taidouhen does not function as a bridge between Vandread The First Stage and Vandread The Second Stage (season two). Instead, it was created to bring new viewers up to speed on the events of the first season.

Paraila was an agent for a war organization in space, but the supreme court of planets suddenly accused her of betrayal and forced her to become a fugitive after escaping from jail. Now she forms a team with a clueless school teacher, a bazooka-loving girl, and Paraila's former sidekick. They will battle against Paraila's enemies and try to reach Earth to escape space justice.

Special agents Kei and Yuri, whose operations invariably cause more devastation than they avert, encounter formidable obstacles on an amusement park planet. In this anime installment, the duo confronts an android assassin, gender-bending killers, spirits, and other foes. Furthermore, the Lovely Angels embark on numerous chaotic escapades as they pursue a swindler and offer romantic guidance to the software developer they are tasked with protecting.

Superagents Kei and Yuri face grave danger while searching for Kei's godson and encountering a murderous ski patrol. This episode set also sees the pair battling seagulls and hitmen. These two anime characters never get a break, constantly risking their lives to finish their vital assignments.

Louise Françoise Le Blanc de La Vallière is a proud mage in a world defined by wands, cloaks, and nobility. She attends the esteemed Tristain Academy for mages but fails at casting spells correctly, earning her the mocking nickname "Louise the Zero" from her classmates. Kintarou Ooe is a master of temporary employment, traveling across Japan on his faithful motorcycle, the Mikazuki 5, and taking on work wherever he can find it. His journeys teach him lessons that no school can provide, ranging from political corruption to the subtle complexities of a young woman's heart. With the open road stretching ahead—and plenty of attractive women along the way—Kintarou follows his passion for learning while juggling his various odd jobs, no matter how unglamorous they may be. Amid the numerous conflicts ahead, an ancient evil begins to stir from the shadows.
