Synopsis
In a mysterious afterlife that looks like a high school, 17-year-old Yuzuru Otonashi wakes up with no memory of his past. This place is home to souls who died unfairly and still hold anger toward God. These bitter spirits have formed the Afterlife Battlefront, led by Yuri Nakamura, to fight back against their divine-like student council president, Kanade "Angel" Tachibana. Yuri brings Otonashi into their rebellion, hoping to take back control of their fates. But Otonashi is not sure their fight is right, so he decides to join the other side to learn more about what they all share.
Background
Angel Beats! is an original anime that was created by screenplay writer Jun Maeda and directed by Seiji Kishi. A manga adaptation was later released by Jun Maeda and published by ASCII Media Works in Dengeki G's Magazine. The manga was used as a way to expand on elements of the plot that could not be fitted into the show's original running time. The show was chosen as a recommended work by the awards jury of the 18th Japan Media Arts Festival in the year 2014.
