Synopsis
A century ago, the immortal realm was ravaged by war, leading to the fall of the gods and the descent of the enigmatic "Book of Life and Death" into the mortal world. During a scientific expedition, young archaeologist Lu Yun inadvertently breached an unidentifiable burial chamber, shattering his peaceful existence and thrusting him into a perilous quest for hidden truths. Summoned to the Immortal Realm by the Book of Heaven, Lu Yun assumed the role of Langxie Tian Xuanzhou Prefecture Shepherd in Xuanzhou City. His tenure was immediately threatened by the ambitious major families vying for his position. Unable to cultivate, Lu Yun, accompanied by a female envoy, infiltrated the Xuanchi Mountain tomb to retrieve the Jiuqiao Jindan, a pill capable of altering his physique. Evading traps, they were hunted by a millennium-old corpse monster and swarms of corpse flies, eventually taking refuge in the darkly fragrant boudoir of a Shi Ling queen. Utilizing the Book of Life and Death within him, Lu Yun discovered the portrait of Dan Xian Yuying, the former shepherd and the first reincarnation messenger recorded in the Book of Heaven. Through Dan Xian’s recovery, Lu Yun transformed his body and negotiated with Emperor Langxie to secure his status. Yet, nightly dreams revealed fragmented memories not his own, accompanied by visions of the Book of Heaven vibrating violently within his body as nine dragons carried coffins around him. To uncover the book’s secrets, Lu Yun traveled to Xuanshui City near the Xuanhe River. There, he found a swaddled infant hidden in a dark room and box. To save the child, Lu Yun dove into the Xuanhe River, where the devastated Water Palace was occupied by Gandalf monsters. After escaping a horde of terrifying creatures, they faced the demonized Xuanhe River God. To rescue their companion Qinghan, Lu Yun wielded the Floating Life Map, unleashing the power of the Book of Life and Death to subdue the River God and gain a new skill. He had now conquered the fourth reincarnation messenger, each representing mastery in Talisman Dao, Martial Dao, Formations, or Refining. As Lu Yun approached the scripture’s truth, defying heaven and earth, the Curse King atop Jiuzhongtian watched with a sneer, dismissing him as an ant exceeding its power.
