Synopsis
Years after the sentient AI Skynet seized global control in 2022, the human resistance continues its struggle against the machines. After a brutal skirmish, Eiko, a Japanese guerrilla fighter, traps a Terminator, which is Skynet’s elite assassin cyborg. She gathers vital intelligence about its objectives, enabling the resistance to send her into the past to alter the course of history. By August 1997, just days before the impending nuclear strike known as Judgment Day, Malcolm Lee is developing Kokoro, an advanced AI intended to protect humanity. As the date of destruction nears, a Terminator travels to Japan to eliminate Malcolm and his children before Kokoro achieves self-awareness. Malcolm must ensure his invention does not deviate from its purpose and reach the same fatal conclusion as Skynet regarding human extinction.
Background
Although Terminator 0 shares the same universe as the Terminator live-action movies, it features a new story with different characters. It is the first animation of the Terminator franchise and premiered exclusively on Netflix.
