One summer day, Rintarou accidentally shatters a fossil of a Japanese maple leaf that his father treasures. Overcome with guilt, he cannot bring himself to confess to his father. While searching for fossils by the riverbank, Rintarou meets a boy named Toshi, and their summer of adventures begins.
