
Synopsis
Hirayama Jirou's mother died in the Great Kanto Earthquake, and he now operates a soba stall alongside his father. Choosing to become part of the crew of the renowned ocean liner Hikawa Maru, he secures a job as a cook in the ship's galley. The film follows the vessel's 85-year journey through his perspective.
Background
Hikawa Maru Monogatari is based on Genjirou Itou's book of the same name. The film commemorates the 85th anniversary of the ocean liner Hikawa Maru's maiden voyage. The ship is permanently berthed as a museum ship in Yokohama.
