Synopsis
This anime, presented in a documentary style, is adapted from Ooshiro Tatsuhiro's book and recounts the July 1944 sinking of the cargo vessel Tsushima Maru. The ship was transporting a group of schoolchildren back to their homes when it was hit and sunk by an American submarine. Created by the relatives of those who were aboard the Tsushima Maru, the film is recognized for its accurate depiction and meticulous production. The realism is heightened by the unique character designs by Kiyomizu Kazutoshi, which feature a deliberately stylized look.
