Synopsis

Nello Daas, a gifted young artist living in a village near Antwerp, Belgium, supports himself by delivering milk to the city market alongside his ailing grandfather. His only true friend is Alois Cogez, whose father, their landlord, considers Nello a bad influence and beneath Alois's social standing. To prevent their friendship from continuing, Alois's father sends her to a boarding school in Antwerp. During his regular trips to the market, Nello learns about an art competition focused on the Flemish painter Peter Paul Rubens, whom he greatly admires. The competition offers a monetary prize and a chance to enroll in an art school in Antwerp, where Alois is now studying. Motivated by this opportunity, Nello begins working on his entry, but a series of unfortunate events threatens his dreams. Throughout his hardships, Nello's steadfast companion is Patrasche, the dog he rescued from a cruel fate. Patrasche supports Nello through every challenge. "Flanders no Inu" captures the timeless story of the pure-hearted bond between a young boy and his loyal dog as they face life's trials together.
