The young girl Shishi lives by the roots of the big tree in the middle of the world. One day she sees a golden bird fly by. She belives this is a legendary all-knowing bird, and decides to climb the big tree. The first independent work of Makiko Futaki, an animator who worked at Studio Ghibli since its founding until her death in 2016.
