In Death City stands the Death Weapon Meister Academy, founded by Shinigami, the grim reaper himself. Built to preserve order, the school trains Meisters and Demon Weapons—individuals who can transform into weapons—to protect humanity from evil. A Meister's ultimate aim is to forge a "Death Scythe" fit for Shinigami's use, which requires their weapon partner to devour the souls of 99 wicked humans and one witch. Maka Albarn and her partner Soul Eater "Soul" Evans are students striving to create such a scythe. They are accompanied by the loud Black☆Star and his partner Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, along with the perfectionist Death the Kid—called Kid—and his partners, the twins Patricia "Patty" and Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson. These determined students all strive to become the top Meister and Demon Weapon duo, navigating mishaps, assignments, and numerous school challenges. Yet many mysteries surround them, and as fresh adversaries emerge and hidden truths come to light, Maka, Soul, and their companions must battle to safeguard the academy, Death City, and the entire world from threats far more sinister than mere humans.
