Gakuen Alice
学園アリス
Mikan Sakura and Hotaru Imai are inseparable best friends, even though the latter often seems not to feel the same way. Mikan naively believes her distant friend will always stay with her, until Hotaru decides to leave for Tokyo to attend Alice Academy—a school for gifted children who possess special abilities called Alices. Heartbroken and feeling abandoned, Mikan runs away from home to follow her friend, hoping she too can enroll in the prestigious institution. Once Mikan is accepted as a student at Alice Academy and reunites with Hotaru, she quickly discovers that the school is not all fun and games. The academy is organized into a strict hierarchy based on the strength of each student's Alice, their behavior, and academic performance, with students also placed into specific Alice subgroups for a more tailored education. Finding herself in the lowest rank, Mikan faces bullying from classmates who believe she does not belong. Natsume Hyuuga, one of the top-ranked students, is especially hostile toward Mikan for seemingly no reason. The students soon realize that the special academy harbors hidden secrets—many of which are far darker than expected. As they uncover these mysteries, Mikan and her friends become entangled in something much larger than they ever imagined.
