げんしけん

It's the spring of Kanji Sasahara's first year of college, and he finds himself torn. Should he finally pursue his longtime dream of joining an otaku club? Saki Kasukabe has a problem of her own: can she ever transform her boyfriend, the anime fanboy Kousaka, into a normal guy? Kanji succeeds where Saki fails, as both he and Kousaka enroll in Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture. Undeterred, Saki trails Kousaka through the club's many events—from cosplay and comic conventions to video games and collecting anime figures—gaining far more knowledge than she ever wanted about the humorous world of Japanese fandom.

Background

The first nine volumes of Genshiken were published as Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture by Del Rey Manga from April 26, 2005, to November 27, 2007. Kodansha USA picked up the license and published the series from volume 10 onwards as Genshiken: Second Season from September 4, 2012, to March 13, 2018. The previous nine volumes were republished as 3-in-1 omnibus volumes. The first nine volumes were also released in Brazilian Portuguese by Editora JBC from June 2013 to May 2014.
