Kim Dokja has never seen himself as the hero of his own existence. True to the meaning of his name, he lives a solitary life, with his only pastime being reading web novels. For more than ten years, he has lived through Yoo Joonghyuk, the protagonist of the web novel *Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse* (TWSA). Through Joonghyuk, Dokja has experienced vicariously the ordeal of repeatedly looping through time, desperately seeking an end to deadly “scenarios” that force people to perform stories for the amusement of divine beings known as “Constellations.” After finishing 3,149 chapters—long after every other reader had abandoned the story—Dokja finally accepts that the tale is ending. Then he receives a cryptic message from the author saying the story will soon be turned into a paid service, and his surroundings suddenly plunge into darkness. He quickly understands that fiction has become reality, and he is now living through TWSA. Though he is the sole omniscient reader of the events yet to come, surviving the scenarios is far from certain—yet maybe his knowledge will let him embrace the role of protagonist, one he never felt suited for before.
