In the early 1900s, technological progress enabled the creation of advanced magic. This fusion of science and sorcery was called Makinot—spell circuits embedded into objects, granting them life and even personalities. Originally developed as military armaments, Makinot puppets have since become widespread globally. Akabane Raishin enrolls at the Royal Academy with the goal of becoming the world's top puppeteer. He is accompanied by Yaya, a beautiful teenage girl who is actually his puppet weapon, and he intends to rise quickly to the top of his class. However, while his combat prowess and resolve are unmatched, his academic test scores are nearly the lowest. Raishin must face off against the most dangerous of his classmates if he hopes to emerge as the king.
