Twenty-four hours before a nanocapsule triggers their death, the chosen individuals receive notifications called "Ikigami" from government messengers. The government provides only one stated reason for the law's existence—to instill an appreciation for the value of life. Kengo Fujimoto is a newly appointed Ikigami messenger who is uncertain about his stance on the act. After Satella drives off the thugs, Subaru decides to repay her by assisting in the search for the thief. Through a chain of events, the two end up in a cellar known for storing stolen goods. Shortly after entering the house, they are ambushed by a dark figure, and neither survives the attack. Subaru opens his eyes to find that he has been sent back in time to earlier that day, beginning a confusing series of loops in which he relives past events.

After their decisive confrontation, Battler Ushiromiya reflects on the sudden resignation of the Golden Witch Beatrice, who now exists as a mere shadow of her former self. The extreme shift away from her previously defiant intentions compels Battler to reexamine every detail of the prior four games. Although he wishes to remain at her side, Battler resolves to take back control of the current situation, where Lambdadelta and Frederica Bernkastel have temporarily assumed their roles to conduct the fifth game board. Following Kinzou Ushiromiya's death, Krauss Ushiromiya inherits the family leadership amidst severe monetary difficulties. Because of poor investment choices, the family estate is set to fall into the hands of Krauss's creditors, making it easy for his siblings to pursue legal action against him. Everything appears to be going smoothly for Subaru. But after a few days in the mansion, he mysteriously wakes up at the starting point once more, a grim reminder of his power. Can Subaru solve the riddle of his own death, or will his spirit be the first to break?
