Akiteru Ooboshi places efficiency above everything else. As the head of the 05th Floor Alliance—a game development team composed of his apartment neighbors—he oversees the release of their latest title, The Night the Black Goat Screamed, which unexpectedly exceeds one million downloads. To secure the group’s continued success and steer their future projects toward even greater milestones, Akiteru reaches out to Honeyplace Works, a major company run by his uncle, Makoto Tsukinomori.
Makoto, though, adds an odd condition for the partnership: Akiteru has to pretend to be the boyfriend of his cousin, Mashiro. Driven by efficiency, Akiteru considers this the most logical choice and consents to the deal for his team’s sake.
Complicating matters is Iroha Kohinata, the younger sister of Akiteru’s best friend and fellow developer, Ozuma. Known for her playful taunting, Iroha takes pleasure in unsettling Akiteru’s calm composure. As work, school, and personal affairs blend together, Akiteru finds himself handling a fragile situation involving two girls who might hold the keys to his future.
