Iryuu: Team Medical Dragon

Dr. Akira Katou aims to secure a professorship at Meishin University Medical Center and ultimately overhaul Japan's corrupt medical system. To achieve this, she decides to focus her latest research on the Batista procedure—a highly demanding surgical operation also known as a reduction left ventriculoplasty. The Batista requires exceptional surgical skill and has never been successfully performed in Japan. A successful execution would be crucial for Katou's goal of becoming a professor, but it demands an elite team led by the talented surgeon Dr. Ryutaro Asada. Having witnessed Asada's remarkable surgical abilities firsthand, Katou considers him essential. However, complications arise as Asada frequently challenges hospital norms and questions established protocols. With her professional future at stake, Katou must figure out how to manage the rebellious surgeon without sacrificing her own reform ambitions. If controlling Asada means upholding the very system she intends to change, can the outcome ever justify the approach?

Iryuu: Team Medical Dragon won the 50th Shogakukan Manga Award for best general manga in 2004. It was adapted into a series of live action dramas by Fuji TV with each season premiering in 2006, 2007, 2010, and 2014. The series was published in French by Glénat from July 2008 to June 2013.
