Qin Yu is living apart from the world with his grandfather Lian, as a flaw in his meridians prevents him from cultivating internal arts. To lift his spirits, Lian gives him a peculiar bird named Xiao Hei. Driven by a desire for his father's recognition, Qin Yu starts down the path of cultivation. With strict training from Zhao Yunxing, he works to overcome his physical shortcomings and master external arts. During a break from his practice, Qin Yu stumbles upon a red crystal that unexpectedly merges with his body. Without his awareness, this minor change grants him remarkable powers.
