Nishigori Atsushi was born September 14, 1978 in Tottori, Japan. He is an animator and character designer. Nishigori graduated from Tottori Yonago East High and went through Toei's Animation Laboratory before joining Gainax. He wanted to create animation such as FLCL, which prompted him to do that. He made his debut as key animator on Mahoromatic and debuted as storyboarder and animation director in Puchi Puri Yuushii at the age of 24. His work on the Top wo Nerae! 2 OVA lead him to become the character designer of Gainax next big project, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Nishigori received the Best Character Design award for his work on the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann tv series at the 7th Tokyo Animation Fair in 2008.
