Jujutsu practitioner Kii-Ta-ryu Ryu Akisui left the regret of his defeat to his only son, Kankuro, when he challenged Kano Jigoro, the founder of Kodokan judo in Japan. Therefore, Akimizu and Kankuro start training intensively, day after day. The exhausting training continues until Kankuro be 19 years old. Later, following orders fromAkimizu, Kankuro leaves his home in Kokura, Kyushu, for Tokyo. The day he comes to Tokyo to visit Kihei Ryu's master, Matsushiba Kyuzo, corresponds to the day of celebrations of the victory of the Russo-Japanese War.
