Matsuko Deluxe is a Japanese columnist, essayist, and television personality renowned for his cross-dressing stage persona and his outspoken advocacy regarding gay rights and sexuality. Born in Inage-ku, Chiba Prefecture, he initially graduated from Tokyo Max Beauty school and worked as a salaryman. Influenced by LGBT activists, he transitioned into the media industry, serving as an editor and writer for Japanese gay magazines such as Badi and Barazoku. Prior to being discovered by essayist Usagi Nakamura, Deluxe had left his employment in his late twenties and lived as a NEET. He made his television debut in 2000 on the program Tokyo R&R and subsequently established himself as a regular media commentator on shows like Goji ni Muchuu!
