Prior to his acting career, Gilborn served as a Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and acted as faculty adviser to the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. His academic tenure also included teaching positions at Stanford University, Columbia University, and the University of California, Berkeley.
