Personal Information

Lance James Henriksen was born in Manhattan, New York City, into a financially struggling household. His father, a Norwegian merchant sailor and boxer known by the nickname "Icewater," spent the majority of his life at sea. His mother worked variously as a dance instructor, waitress, and model while facing difficulties in securing steady employment. Following his parents' divorce when he was just two years old, Henriksen was raised solely by his mother. During his formative years, he encountered trouble at multiple schools and was even placed in a children's home. At the age of twelve, he left home and dropped out of school, remaining illiterate until he was thirty, at which point he taught himself to read by studying film scripts. Henriksen spent much of his adolescence as a street urchin in New York, riding freight trains across the country and serving time in jail for petty offenses like vagrancy. It was during this period of wandering that he met James Cameron and Bruce Kenselaar, who became his lifelong friends.
