Kazuyoshi Miura, frequently referred to as Kazu or Kind Kazu, is a Japanese football striker hailing from Shizuoka City. A former member of the Japanese national team, he made history in 1993 as the first Japanese recipient of the Asian Player of the Year award, an honor bestowed annually by the Asian Football Confederation. He is currently playing for Yokohama FC in the J. League Division 2. Miura's ascent to fame in Japan aligned with the 1993 launch of the J. League, establishing him as arguably the nation's first football superstar. He concluded his international career with his final national team match in 2000, retiring with 55 goals across 89 appearances, which stands as the second-highest total in Japanese national team history. At 45 years old, Miura remains the oldest active footballer in Japan's professional leagues.
