Born Paula Apollo Anne Scharf, Apollo Smile is a pop music songwriter, singer, and voice actress. Her early career included contributing a track to the Tom Cruise film Days of Thunder and releasing a self-titled album in 1991. Later, she adopted the moniker "The Live Action Anime Girl," which led to invitations as a guest at various science fiction conventions. These appearances typically featured concerts of her original upbeat music alongside demonstrations of her martial arts skills. During this period, her signature style consisted of skin-tight spandex outfits and blonde hair styled in pigtails secured with pink bows. In the summer of 1998, Smile hosted the Sci-Fi Channel's Anime Week. Her other significant projects included a self-published comic book centered on herself and providing the voice for Ulala in the Space Channel 5 video game series. In recent years, Apollo Smile has largely stepped away from the "anime girl" persona she cultivated, instead pursuing smaller, more conventional roles in film and television. She also briefly toured with the Virginia "Atari" band Rockbot. Currently, she is listed as staff at The Dance Corner dancing school in Killingworth, Connecticut.
