Born in Dallas, Texas, Jeffrey "Jeff" Dunham is an American ventriloquist, producer, and stand-up comedian known for his extensive television appearances on programs such as Late Show with David Letterman, Comedy Central Presents, The Tonight Show, and Sonny With a Chance. His work on Comedy Central includes six specials: Jeff Dunham: Arguing with Myself, Jeff Dunham: Spark of Insanity, Jeff Dunham's Very Special Christmas Special, Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos, Jeff Dunham: Minding the Monsters, and Jeff Dunham: All Over the Map. Additionally, he starred in The Jeff Dunham Show, a series that aired on the network in 2009. Dunham's comedic style has been characterized as a more accessible, dressed-down variation of Don Rickles combined with multiple personality disorder. Time magazine described his characters as politically incorrect, gratuitously insulting, and ill-tempered. He is widely credited with reviving the art of ventriloquism, doing more to promote the craft than any performer since Edgar Bergen.
