Mori Mitsuko, born Murakami Mitsu on May 9, 1920, in Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture, was a celebrated actress and singer who served as the honorary vice president of the Japan Actors Union (Nippairen). A distinguished figure in the performing arts, she achieved a historic milestone in May 2009 by becoming the first actor in Japan to perform the play Hourouki (A Wanderer's Notebook) 2,000 times. On May 11, 2009, Kawamura Takeo announced that she would receive the People's Honour Award in recognition of her contributions. Mori passed away from heart failure on November 10, 2012, at a hospital in Tokyo at the age of 92.
