Mayu Shinjou is a female manga artist born in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. A prominent figure in the smut-shoujo genre, her works span a spectrum from sweet and innocent narratives to those bordering on explicit content. She is known for her preference for depicting large-breasted characters with cute faces, expressing a wish that all her manga could feature such designs. Shinjou describes herself as a "trend whore," a foreigner otaku, and a Disney maniac who has a deep affection for video and audio media. Her personal interests include drinking, hot springs, and a wide array of cultural icons such as Ayumi Hamasaki, BUCK-TICK, Glay, Gundam, Nirvana, roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Sting, The Matrix, Top Gun, and U2. Professionally, Shinjou served as an assistant to Yoshihara Yuki and later mentored Osakabe Mashin. She emphasizes her heavy reliance on her assistants and her love for scandalous themes. In 2007, she departed from Shogakukan due to alleged abuse by her editors, subsequently moving her career to Kadokawa and Shueisha. Beyond her professional work, she operates a doujinshi circle named "Liliental," where she utilizes the pseudonym Maru Shinozaki. On November 12, 2014, Shinjou announced in an interview her intention to cease writing shoujo manga to focus on Boys' Love (BL), declaring herself a "men lover." She further clarified on Twitter that any future manga projects would exclusively feature BL or stories centered on male relationships.
