Mao Kobayashi was born in Ojiya, Niigata, Japan. She is affiliated with the talent agency Cent Force. Beyond her work in animation, Kobayashi has appeared in various live-action productions. Her non-anime credits include the role of Ayumi Hirose in the Japanese mini-series Slow Dance and Maki in the film Tokyo Friends: The Movie. She also portrayed Ri'eko Matsumoto in the mini-series Unfair and Yûko Miura in the mini-series Taiyo no uta. Additionally, she served as a co-anchor for the Japanese news program News Zero.
