He is married to Jinnai Eriko, a model and talent. Jinnai gained significant recognition in live-action cinema for portraying Kogorou Mouri, one of the central characters, in the film adaptations of the long-running anime series Detective Conan. His transition to directing began in 2003 with the release of Rockers, a film drawing from his personal history as the vocalist of the punk rock band The Rockers. His acting prowess has been widely acknowledged, earning him three nominations for Best Actor at the Japanese Academy Awards, with one nomination in 1988 and two in 1989.
