Mark Dailey was born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, to John and Rose-Marie (Genetta) Dailey, where he was one of three children alongside his sisters, Kathleen and Colleen. After graduating from Ursuline High School, he studied law enforcement at Youngstown State University. His early career included service as a state trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, followed by roles as a crime reporter for WNIO 1540-AM (now WYCL) and the ABC affiliate WYTV in the late 1960s. He also worked for radio station CKLW in Windsor, Ontario, before relocating to Toronto in 1974. Prior to joining Citytv, Dailey held positions at Q-107 and CHUM Radio. He spent 31 years at Citytv, where he became well known for his signature sign-off: "This is Citytv, everywhere." Although Dailey had previously survived prostate cancer, he announced on his 11 o'clock newscast on September 9, 2010, that he had been diagnosed with kidney cancer. The disease subsequently spread to his lungs, leading to his death on December 6, 2010, at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He was 57 years old.
