Personal Information
Born on December 13, 1963, Kyoko Okazaki is widely regarded as one of the matriarchs of josei comics. Known for her minimalist art style and willingness to explore controversial subject matter, Okazaki began her career in the realm of adult comics during the 1980s. While attending Atomi University, she made her professional debut in Cartoon Burikko, an experimental adult comic anthology originally targeted at male readers. Following this start, Okazaki shifted her creative focus toward women's issues. Her narratives, which centered on the lives of contemporary young women, frequently addressed topics such as street culture, high fashion, and drug use without hesitation. She later launched her first long-running series, Tokyo Girls Bravo, a rare title published within a fashion magazine. Okazaki has been retired since the turn of the century while recovering from a life-threatening traffic accident.
