Youhei Sasakawa serves as the chairman of The Nippon Foundation, the largest charitable foundation in Japan. In this capacity, he is recognized as a pioneer for directing private-sector initiatives toward public interest in modern Japan. Beyond his leadership role, he holds the positions of World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Leprosy Elimination and Japan's Ambassador for the Human Rights of People Affected by leprosy. For over 40 years, he has dedicated himself to a global campaign against leprosy, focusing on eradicating the disease along with the associated stigma and social discrimination.
