Personal Information
Akira Ooizumi was born in Kita, Toshima, Tokyo, Japan. As the son of a Russian-Japanese writer who traveled extensively, he spent his childhood moving throughout Japan. In 1937, he began his career in the eastern theater under the stage name Ooizumi Poo, followed by his film debut in the 1940 movie 'fuu no matasaburou'. Although he attended Josai high school, he dropped out in 1946 to join the Japanese theatre company Bungakuza. Ooizumi passed away from lung cancer on April 23, 1998.
