Born on 28 September 1948, Gareth Armstrong is a Welsh actor from Britain. His professional journey commenced with performances in school productions at the Bishop Gore School in Swansea. Armstrong has amassed a significant television portfolio, featuring roles in Z-Cars, Blake's 7, The Professionals, Terry and June, One Foot in the Grave, Casualty, and EastEnders. He also appeared in the Doctor Who serial The Masque of Mandragora. His stage career includes numerous Shakespearean productions, notably the role of Shylock in The Merchant of Venice. Additionally, he has toured internationally with his solo show Shylock, which reimagines the character through the perspective of Tubal, the only other Jewish figure in the original play and Shylock's sole friend. In the realm of voice acting, Armstrong provided the English voice for the Japanese television series Journey to the West, known in English-speaking markets as Monkey. In radio, Armstrong portrayed three recurring characters in The Archers on Radio 4. Among these was Sean Myerson, the publican of the Cat and Fiddle, who held the distinction of being the serial's first regular gay character.
