When a 2nd moon suddenly looms overs Japan, the brave Professor Uetsuto volunteers to take a rocket up to the mysterious moon to investigate. Unfortunately the Professor meets a horrifying fate and is sent plummeting back to Earth. The circumstances surrounding the Professor's fate are far too suspicious to ignore and his son, a student in biological science, decides to get to the bottom of the controversy himself. Professor Uetsuto's devious rival, Professor Dorai, has other plans though and will stop at nothing to ensure the mystery of Professor Uetsuto's "demise" remains a secret. Published in 1957 by Togetsu books, this was Mizuki Shigeru's very first Manga.

Takahashi Makoto's The Rows of Cherry Trees is quite old—it's from 1957. It centers around three members of the table tennis club at an all-girl school. The story begins with the school tournament, where Yukiko faces off against first her rival, then her crush.

THIS thrilling story of a small detachment of the People's Liberation Army took place in 1946, in the early period of the War of Liberation, when the people's forces represented by the Communist Party, and the Kuomintang reactionary forces were in a temporary stalemate on the northeastern China battlefront. A group of defeated Kuomintang bandit leaders, their soldiers gone, sought refuge deep in the dense mountain forests. There, joining hands with professional brigands and landlord tyrants, they staged sudden raids on defenceless villages. Their savage burning, killing and plundering brought untold sufferings to the people. It also damaged the land reform, which was consolidating the rear and mobilizing manpower and material for the War. In the bitterly cold winter, a small detachment of the PLA was sent to round up these murdering brigands hidden somewhere in the boundless mountain forests. After a number of battles of wits and after surmounting unimaginable difficulties, the small detachment at last destroyed the bandit force which was several times its size. Several beautiful fairy tales are interwoven in these episodes about the courageous PLA.
