The story takes place in 2035 on the planet Tinos, which was colonized three centuries earlier by settlers from Earth. Since Tinos possesses only half the oxygen concentration found on Earth and most of its terrain is covered by freezing arctic conditions, every inhabitant must wear a life support device in order to stay alive. Within the criminal underworld of Junk City, the illegal trade of these devices has become a highly profitable business. Blue, the protagonist, is robbed and left urgently needing a life support apparatus. A group of unscrupulous crooks swindles Blue out of his money, leaving him stuck with a dated unit that operates on an elderly AI. The police chief, Weiser, then manipulates Blue into committing a murder, after which Blue is killed. Fatso, the AI, makes the decision to rescue him by providing a new artificial body brimming with phenomenal strength and the collective knowledge accumulated from their combined three hundred and seventeen years. The revived Blue then sets his sights on vengeance and on defending everyone who suffers under Weiser's oppressive rule.
