Makoto dreams of becoming a trainer for Tosa fighting dogs. His father, Rouou, a sumo wrestler, gives him a brown puppy that raises questions about whether it is truly a Tosa. Upon discovering the puppy is actually a Siberian wolf, Makoto decides to train it as a fighting dog anyway and names it Zero. Unaware to Makoto, Zero witnessed his mother's death at the hands of Anzai's Yokozuna-level Tosa dog, Unryū. Driven by that tragic past, Makoto enters the competition determined to avenge Zero's mother by defeating Unryū.
