Tiger Mask, whose real name is Naoto Date, was once a ruthless heel wrestler in America, notorious for his cruel tactics in the ring. After returning to Japan, he became a hero when a young orphan expressed a desire to imitate Tiger Mask as a villain, reminding Naoto of his own past at the same orphanage. Determined not to set a bad example for the child, Tiger Mask vowed to become a heroic wrestler. The main antagonists are Tiger's Cave, a secret organization that trains youths to become heel wrestlers under the condition that they hand over half their earnings. Although Naoto was once a member, he cut all ties with Tiger's Cave and now donates his winnings to the orphanage. This defiance enrages the organization's leader, who dispatches numerous assassins, including other wrestlers, to get back at him. Most settings and characters are fictional, but real-life professional wrestlers like Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba appear in both the manga and anime.
